    "Only the Little People Pay Taxes"

    Leona HelmsleyThat's what billionaire Leona Helmsley said. At least Helmsley wasn't on the public dole. like Charles Rangel, Tom Daschle and Timothy Geithner.

    Instapundit Glenn Reynolds nominates a new member of the club: Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that:

    Oakland Mayor Ron Dellums and his wife failed to pay more than $239,000 in taxes over a three-year period...

    Dellums doesn't appear to be very embarrassed, or sorry.

    "We owe taxes. The matter is being dealt with and will be resolved in short order."

    David Boaz explains why it's worse when politicians cheat the system:

    I sympathize with anybody trying to hold down his tax bill. Government is too big and too expensive, few of us feel we get our money’s worth from our taxes, and we all have better uses for our money than bridges to nowhere and free condoms. But honestly, shouldn’t people who want to increase taxes on the rest of us — like Daschle, Geithner, Chairman Charles Rangel... pay their own taxes?
